Based on reports and photos of the Acropolis on the ‘Free Entry for All’ days, I would avoid wasting my time.

There is still a large number of people who take advantage of the free entry.

If you are travelling on a tight budget it’s vital to make the most of the free entry.

I recommend visiting late in the morning or early.

However, be aware that many tour groups go early).

The operating hours for the Acropolis during the summer and winter months are:

For the summer months, starting April 1st:

  • Daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

If you haven’t bought a ticket for the Acropolis online in advance, you will need to buy a ticket at the ticket kiosks.

The main entrance of the Acropolis houses the main ticket office.

How Long Will You Have to Wait in Line for a Ticket to the Acropolis?

In the winter months, the queues at the Acropolis are minimal, so you won’t have to wait.

During busier times and weekends, you can expect to wait no more than 20 to 30 minutes.

Summer is a different story.

Follow the instructions below if you want to stop the 2+ hour lines.

How Can You Bypass the Queue for Purchasing a Ticket to the Acropolis at Local Booths?

To avoid long queues at the Acropolis ticket booths during the summer, go to one of the other places mentioned below. There are never long queues at these sites.

If you buy the special ticket there, you will pay the same amount, namely 30€.

Then, you can access the site and visit the Acropolis whenever it suits you, without having to wait in line.

The multi-site ticket is valid for five days after purchase. There is also a ticket kiosk near the entrance, near the Theatre of Dionysus.

The queues here are usually shorter than those at the main entrance.

Yes, since 2018, it is possible to buy tickets for the Acropolis online.
